Recap by The Metal Wulf

Fairly uneventful evening all told. David Henninger from Spater dropped by for more promotion of Finger Lakes Metal Fest. Yeah, time is flying, as of this writing the event is just a hair over two weeks away. Doesn't seem possible, but there ya have it!
Also on the Metal Fest end of things, we had Jesse Halstead, who will be singing for two bands at MetalFest this year. He'll be fronting his long-time band HorseFace, who will also be officially releasing their new CD ("Army Of Swine") that very day. He'll also be fronting Stygian, coming full circle from a year ago when that band asked him to be their vocalist following THAT Metal Fest.
Crazy how things happen, huh? Oh, and Stygian will have new music available, as well, to my understanding.

Azkath was also on hand, and proceeded to pummel me senseless when I'd admitted to liking The London Quireboys. Seems one of their songs had come up as a bullet on one of his Russian Roulette shows on The Last Exit For The Lost, and he had to rub it in my face....not to mention beat the snot out of me when I refused to denounce them...
Sorry, love that first album ("A Bit Of What You Fancy"), even 23 years after it's release. I've even done an edition of Randy's Rants talking about this whole debacle, so keep your eyes open on the ol' YouTube channel. I hope to have the latest clip up very soon.

Outside of that, the only really notable events occurred later in the evening. We've had a television in the Stupid Room for awhile, and Josh had been watching some basketball in between talk breaks. After it was all said and done, Eric from Ire Clad turned it to the Disney Channel...and subject us to an hour and a half of some of the lamest programming I've ever seen.
No beef against Disney, mind you. I mean, truth be told, if I had a choice, I'll always go with Warner Bros. and Looney Tunes over anything Walt ever concocted, but hey, it's still fun on occasion to take in some Disney animation.
But their other shows suck. Case in point, this thing that Eric was watching called "Good Luck Charlie"...god-awful...freakin' terrible...
Eric went on to describe to us his dream of recording an album of Demi Lovato covers, only giving it the extreme metal touch...you know, blast beats and such...and if that doesn't scare you, I'm pretty sure he mentioned an interest in doing something similar with the Lady GaGa catalog...
Utterly terrifying...

So, with all that being said, our next show will be No Pants Day. I think that pretty much says it all. Bunch of goofs running around in their boxers, maybe some ladies in their undies as well, you never know.
One thing that won't be making an appearance this year, though, is anything resembling a damned Bronie! Ain't happenin', not on my watch!

Recap by The Metal Wulf

We had representation from three of the bands who will be playing at this year's edition of Finger Lakes Metal Fest.
So not only did we have Dave and Terry from Spater on board, but we had all of the guys from Stone Soul Foundation on hand, as well. This was the first time we've seen them since late last summer, and they were kind enough to let us play a new track, which they will be making a video for, called "Taking Back The U.S." Looking forward to seeing it once it's ready to go!
And, for the record, this will be their first ever appearance at Metal Fest, so if you've never seen them, get your asses to Donselaar's on May 18 and check them out. Well worth it!
Eric Rodriguez from Ire Clad was also on hand. Ire Clad is also appearing at Metal Fest for the first time, and they're another band that I personally can't recommend strongly enough.
Eric was actually attempting to give away tickets to another show that they're playing, in this playing along with Polka Dot Cadaver and some other greats in Watkins Glen this Saturday night.
Needless to say, Eric demonstrated some...interesting...methods of motivating people to call. He actually suggested he'd have sex at the show with whoever called in for the tickets.
Honestly, I probably shouldn't share some of the things that he was suggesting off the air...

I should also probably mention that Josh has learned to run away when people attempt to tickle him. This is a great step forward for him, to be honest, so I'm thinking in the future we may not be seeing quite as much of the "fainting goat" effect.
Time will tell!

Anyhoo, next show will feature members of both HorseFace and Stygian, and I'm pretty sure both sides are pretty pumped for this year's event! Tune in and check it out!

Recap by The Metal Wulf

Only got to enjoy the last two hours of the show this week, as Rick, Bill and myself had gone to see Nile at the Montage in Rochester.

Gotta say, Nile kicked ass. Will definitely have to check them out again sometime. In the interest of getting to the Onslaught, Rick and I had left after the first of their two sets, though.

We did get to hear a little bit of the Onslaught on the radio as we came back toward Geneva, which is usually fairly amusing, because you can generally hear the guys as they talk shit about you!

Yep, imagine my shock when I heard Joe say that he hates me...I was pretty bummed, but I didn't let it show. If anything, I was probably just as shocked to hear Azkath say that he actually likes me. I find that one kinda hard to swallow, especially in light of another pre-fabricated statement that he once again insists that I gave to him to read on my behalf.

So, here's the deal: This "statement" suggests that I'm going to come out on No Pants Day, displaying my Bronie-ism in a manner suitable for the occasion.

** What Azkath Read: I would like to provide a warning to all. This coming No Pants Day, I promise that I will not be any more pantless than I have in the past, but, and that is a big butt, I will finally admit to my bronyism, and let it flourish, it the most appropriate way possible for a No Pants Day celebration. You have been warned. I love you all. **

Yeah, that don't sound good at all. I mean, the whole Bronie thing is a pile o' crap anyway, I've pretty well established that. I can categorically say that there will be no Bronie-ing on No Pants Day. I'm just gonna throw on a pair of shorts and keep them on for the night. I'm letting someone else make an ass of themselves this year. Whatever happens, I WILL NOT be the one to blame! Mark my words!

And to make matters worse, Joe turned around and installed another chip in me. I swear, I've gotta stop dozing off on the show, because I'm gettin' a little tired of him tampering with my brain like that. I mean, this time he outfitted me with the "THX Chip"...

Yeah...THX...that wonderful sound sample you get to hear before certain movies. You know you've heard it...one of the most God-awful, annoying sounds in the world. I even spent a good portion of one of the final talk breaks imitating it. Wasn't hard, because every time music played, that's what I heard!

Azkath tried to help, but really didn't help at all. I guess he somehow felt he could beat the chip out of me somehow...but he just made matters worse. I mean, I can hear music, but it's always interspersed with that wretched THX sound...just terrible, really, really terrible...I guess that's what he gets for attempting to use electrocution to short out the chip. Not fun...seriously, I had smoke coming out of my ears for two days. Try explaining THAT at work...

With that being said, I've gotta say that this has without a doubt been the worst of the bunch. How I've maintained my sanity at work, or anywhere else for that matter, is completely beyond me...I just hope I can keep it together until the next installment, where I'm hoping Joe can take it out once and for all...

Recap by The Metal Wulf...

Gotta say, it was cool having some representation from Setiva on the show this past Friday night. Most of us have known Ferg since his days in Loopus, and we got to talk about some of those fun times, as well as the recent reformation of Setiva.

They'll be out and about doing some shows in the coming months, most notably the 4/20 show at Pineapple Jack's, which will likely have at least a couple of us in attendance. Gonna be a tough call, as that's also the same day as the Wounded Warrior's benefit show in Geneva. Hmmmmm...

Speaking of shows, there was some happy discussion regarding Testament's show in Buffalo the previous Sunday. Great sets from all the bands that played, yet sadly Overkill had to cancel due to Blitz's bout with pneumonia. Apparently it was bad enough that Overkill actually had to back out of the rest of the tour while Bobby recovers.

Still, if you haven't seen this show yet, don't let that deter you! Check 'em out!

So, as you'll remember, Joe had taken out the Abba chip so I'd be able to enjoy the Testament show, which I have to say I was immensely grateful for. The idea of hearing Chuck Billy singing "Fernando" was kind of frightening to me, to be honest.

But, I didn't end up getting off quite as lucky as I'd thought. At some juncture I must have briefly dozed off in between talk breaks, and somehow a new chip got placed in me.

And in it's own way, it sucks JUST AS BAD as the Abba chip. See, instead of hearing random ABBA songs whenever music plays...all I hear now is Gordon Lightfoot singing "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald"...

Okay, admittedly, I've never really disliked this song. It's not like it's a bad song, but still...every time I hear music? All day long, while I'm at work...over and over and over...

Yup, I'm in hell, all over again...

I'd have to say that these circumstances probably contributed, at least in part, to my actions later in the show. For those who were listening, you know that Azkath was taunting me once again with his damned breath strips. Well, he pushed me a little too far, and I went off on him. I ended up throwing him into one of the corners, following it up with a running splash that should look pretty cool on video, once it's up. I tried going in for a Stink-Face after he crumpled to the floor, but he was able to avoid that particular indignity.

Things went back and forth from there, we basically beat the tar out of each other. But, in the end, I think I had him on the run...at least this time...

Eventually I DID end up with some breath strips, and well...things got a little weird from there. By weird I mean everybody's shirts and/or hoodies seemed so soft. Just couldn't stop touching fabric...never had that happen before...very strange experience...

Of course, nobody else seemed very receptive, and I can't say I can blame them. In retrospect, I'm not overly comfortable with that, either...

Note to self: Stay away from breath strips...even if they ARE minty fresh awesomeness...

Recap from The Metal Wulf

Had Darrel Lake on hand to help promote the upcoming event, "Bring 'Em Home", a multi-band show to help benefit the Wounded Warrior Project at the American Legion in Geneva, NY on April 20. The show will feature a solid selection of local bands as well as some out-of-state talent, and should kick ass. Best of all, it's for a good cause! Pretty safe to say that at least a couple of us will be on hand!

Joe seemed to take a great deal of pleasure in the amount of suffering I'd been going through as a result of his implanting me with the Abba Chip.

It was bad, people. I'm dead serious when I say there are few things worse than hearing ABBA in every piece of music that makes it to your ear canal. Think I'm kidding? Television theme songs...radio of all varieties...the muzak system at work...all ABBA, all the time...

No shit, I was ready to power drill straight into my brain, from both ears...

However, Joe WAS kind enough to turn the chip off for a brief amount of time, as we played the newest track from Darkthrone, which clocks in at almost fourteen minutes, and completely kicks ass. Looking forward to hearing the entire new disc once it's available. I'm thinking it could be an early contender for this year's Top 10...but, then, it really is far too early to say!

I was pretty much begging him to take the chip out, especially knowing that Rick, Josh, Bill, Erica, and myself were all headed to Buffalo to see Testament (along with Overkill, Flotsam & Jetsam, and 4Arm) at the Town Ballroom. I really wanted to enjoy that show, and the idea of hearing ABBA vocals emanating from Chuck Billy's throat just made me cringe...

Things actually worked out well in the end, as Azkath was on hand, further taunting me with breath strips. He ended up pushing me a little too far, and I ended up mugging him, mercilessly, for his entire stash.

Yep, I devoured every last breath strip he had, after pummeling him and throwing him into some of the equipment, savoring the minty freshness for the rest of the evening.

Joe was so impressed by the amount of violence I directed at Seriah that he decided to cut me a break, deactivating the ABBA Chip, and allowing me to enjoy the concert in all it's Thrash-tastic goodness!

See, happy endings really do happen!

So, next installment, we'll be having Ferg and the rest of the boys from Setiva on hand. This should be a fun night to tune in, as most of us have known Ferg since his days in Loopus. Lookin' forward to this one!

Recap by The Metal Wulf

Kind of a miracle that the show even happened on this evening, as the East Coast was being battered by a winter storm called Nemo...

Nemo...fucking Nemo...who names a storm Nemo?

I guess I get the whole nautical thing, Captain Nemo...Finding Nemo...but what the hell?

Pardon me if I seem just a trifle bitter toward our recent weather patterns. The fact is, had it not been for that piece of shit Nemo and some added accumulations courtesy of a large lake effect storm, I would have been in Rochester that night, along with Bill, Erica, Josh, Seriah Azkath, and Arydaea Insanity to see Doro Pesch, as well as possibly get an audio interview with her.

Yeah, I'm still pretty pissed, not that it does much good. I mean, you can shake your fist at the skies all you want, but let's face it, the only thing you're going to do is look like a complete ass...

When I found out the we were still on for the Onslaught, I initially decided to just hang back. I mean, we were under a State Of Emergency, after all. But then Joe called me, asked me why I was being such a puss, and threatened to kick me in the vagina.

Novel idea, considering I don't have one. Unless it's really, REEEEAAALLLY well hidden...

So, with that being said, we rode up and it was on with the show!

With the weather being what it was, there was some joking around going on about wearing each other like Tauntauns is any of us got stuck outside. It was pretty solidly decided that I'd be the one who smelled the worse on the inside, but that kinda goes without saying. To be honest, a further agreement suggested that I should just be used as a new form of bio-chemical weapon.

Getting back to the Bronie Bullshit, Joe had mentioned something about there being a whole new line of My Little Pony toys being released, along with a Pony Castle...

Seriously, not my thing. Not even remotely interested, don't believe a word of it...

I'd mentioned how I'd finally heard Ghost's cover of ABBA's "I'm A Marionette", which is going to be included on their upcoming new disc, entitled "Secular Haze".

It's a good track, suitably creepy to fit Ghost's style, yet I found myself wondering if I'd ever even heard the original. I couldn't for the life of me remember, so further searching on YouTube not only allowed me to hear that, but to also notice ABBA tracks that I hadn't heard since I was in my early teens...

How I despise admitting this...

Yes, I went ahead and listened to almost half an hour worth of ABBA tracks! I confess! And I even found songs I remember actually LIKING as a kid!

So, as a result, I've had "Take A Chance On Me" stuck in my head for almost a week at this juncture. Yeah, that's right, almost constantly since last Tuesday, no bullshit, that song keeps popping up in my brain.

It's drivin' me nuts, too. Well, crazier than I already was...

And to make matters worse, I can't even enjoy other music anymore, thanks to Joe. I'd dozed off in between talk breaks and apparently planted something in me he's calling the Abba Chip. This chip makes all music I hear sound like ABBA songs.

Don't believe me? Well, I tried listening to AC/DC not long ago, and all I heard was shit like "Fernando", "Waterloo", and fucking "Dancing Queen"...

I've been trying to find out where in my body this chip currently resides, with absolutely no luck. Believe me, I'm almost at a juncture where I'm ready to rip out some potentially important organs and/or body parts in order to get this thing out of me...

So, with that being said, hopefully there will be enough of me left to make it to the Onslaught on Friday, and hopefully I'll be able to enjoy some heavy freakin' metal by then!

Recap by The Metal Wulf
So, the main order of business on this evening was the announcement of the confirmed bands for this year's edition of Finger Lakes MetalFest. Spater's Dave Henninger was on hand, as always, to make the announcement, and here is the standing list of confirmed bands for the show:

Spater, Stone Soul Foundation, Lowkey, Steel Kingdom, Mercia, Poetry In Black, Abhor, Stygian, Cassidy Has Cholera, Dawn Of The Apocalypse, Concrete Slacks, Ire Clad, Disfigured Dead, HorseFace, Tonight We Feed, and Ripped Apart.

Two more bands are still to be announced, for a total of 18 bands as opposed to 20, but we're still looking at hours of awesome music on two stages, and it will be emceed by the Metallic Onslaught. Still going to be a blast, I guarantee it!

Moving along...

MetalFest isn't the only big event slowly approaching as we get closer to May. We're actually just a hair under three months away from No Pants Day. A brief discussion regarding that pretty much cemented the conclusion that this year it's going to be known as MORE Pants Day, at least as far as I'm concerned.
Okay, I understand the concern. I pretty much have traumatized them for two years running. Don't believe me, I'll be happy to provide some YouTube links for ya.
Still, it's not that big of a deal. I'm pretty sure I can sit this year out, I'll wear jeans if I have to, or just a pair of shorts. No boxers or man-kini's for me this year, I promise!

Joe had returned to us from his vacation in Florida. I'm sure he was just thrilled to come back from a week of watching dolphins frolicking to temperatures in the single digits...
No Jeffie, though, which brought up the question of what did Joe do to him this time? I mean, Joe insists that there was no Jeffie on this trip, but then he said the same thing about New Orleans, before he admitted to pushing Jeffie into a gator-filled swamp.
Personally, I don't see where this is a problem. I'm actually picturing a fishing boat with a large chum bucket filled with Jeffie pieces, being used to bait sharks...
I LIKE that image!

Confusion ensued when Seriah Azkath suddenly went on about his tongue burning. Turns out he'd popped a breath strip into his mouth, and it ended up on the tip of the tongue instead of the middle.
Of course, the tip is always more sensitive...
(Yeah, we had a HUGE laugh over that while we were off the air...)
Well, next thing you know, we were all trying breath strips, and oddly enough Azkath, Josh, and myself were experiencing some crazy, trippy side effects. Yeah, things got nuts, to say the least...
Then there was the crash. Yup, we came down pretty hard, headaches all around, craving more strips.
As a matter of fact, Azkath insisted that he didn't have any more, and had actually taken the very last three.
But during the final talk break, he ended up consuming four more!
Needless to say, I'd gone insane from withdrawal, and proceeded to pursue him throughout the studio, more or less out for blood if I couldn't get breath strips...

And that was pretty much how the evening concluded!

So, the next installment looks like it's going to be just Rick and Joe, along with guests Sanjuro Fields. Hell of a band and a very cool bunch of guys, by the way. Be sure to tune in!
As for Azkath, Arydaea, Josh, and myself, we'll be in Rochester that night to see Doro Pesch at the Montage! I've waited a loooong damned time to see this lady play live, and I'm not missing it for the world!

Recap by The Metal Wulf
Another quiet night on the show. Literally, it was just me, Rick, and Josh for a good portion of the show, as we eased ourselves into our new 10:00 p.m. time slot.
Tim Binder joined us for a bit. In fact, this was actually his last visit with us for the foreseeable future, as he'll be making his way back to L.A. sometime in the coming week. We tried to talk him into staying at least long enough to go see Doro Pesch with us on the 8th of February, but no dice.Of course, it's not like he'll never return. I mean, really, it's only going to be a few flips of the calendar before he comes back to us, probably not more than half a dozen flips, to be precise.

As I'd said, it was a quiet night, with just the few of us, but that was fine, as it gave us a chance to focus more on the music as opposed to the silliness. Not that there was none of that, mind you. I mean, quite frankly, it was pretty damned cold that night. As a matter of fact, I'd have probably spent half the night shivering if it hadn't been the beginning of the full moon phase. Yep, a quick shift to Wulfie, and I was good as gold. Fur makes all the difference, I'm tellin' ya...
Not that there aren't disadvantages. Having a canine form kinda sucks when you need to use the facilities. In fact, I had to take a moment to head outdoors at one point, so I'll now take a moment to extend my apologies to whoever encountered my handiwork at the edge of the parking lot.
I really did try to cover it up the best I could...

For further silliness I shared a story about being Dutch-ovened by my cat.
True story, I'm sorry to say...
Mittens (my cat) had decided he wanted to come under the covers with me on Thursday night. He occasionally does this on the extremely cold nights, and there was a time when he'd stay underneath with me, usually curled up inside the bend of my knees, for the entire evening.Well, this time he only stayed under the covers for about five minutes, and then decided he wanted to get back out. Imagine my surprise when I lifter the sheet and blankets, only to get a direct nose-full of cat fart...
Yeah, thanks Mittens. I'm sure that was intentional, and considered payback for all the times when I let loose on you.Besides, I heard you as you jumped off the bed. It was clear as a bell, a distinct "meow", followed by kittie laughter...

So, not much else to share this week, really. I will say this, however. Next week is going to be a show you're not going to want to miss, as we'll have David Henninger from Spater on hand to announce the line-up for the 2013 edition of Finger Lakes MetalFest.
For those unfamiliar, Finger Lakes MetalFest is a long-running event that takes place at Donselaar's in Clyde, NY. This year the event falls on May 18, and will feature approximately 20 local and regional hard rock and metal acts, and The Metallic Onslaught have been emcees for the past few years.
It's always a great time, so we can't wait to hear from Dave and find out who will be performing this year!

Recap by The Metal Wulf
There was a general air of excitement as we mentioned the booking of Opeth at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo this April. They'll be playing along with Katatonia, so I'm thinking this show should be pretty damned good!
We agreed that it's a shame that we don't have a venue similar to the Town Ballroom that's located a little closer than Buffalo. Truth is, you can't beat the set-up that this place has. There's not a bad view, no matter where you stand!
Joe told me I had to start building a similar venue ASAP.
Yep, I'll get right on that, with the piddling lil' wages my day job offers...

A discussion arose that mentioned bands that had appeared in cheesy 80's movies, with a prime example being Vixen's appearance in "Hardbodies". Not a great film, to be honest, but a damned sight better than a certain piece of trash called "The Allnighter".
Honestly, there was only one reason to watch "The Allnighter", and her name was Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles...
This prompted a further discussion of how we should film a cheesy 80's-style film of our own. As a matter of fact, we even discussed what classic 80's talent we'd want to portray ourselves!
Lessee...we figured John Candy would work for me...John Belushi for Rick...Woody Harrelson for Joe, and for Josh...Pee Wee Herman!
Now, just need to find out who'd portray Lance, Azkath, Jeffie, Bill, and Arydaea...

Tim had joined us once again, but we'll be saying farewell to him soon, as he'll be returning to the West Coast in the coming weeks. We keep telling him to stay, but he always goes back...
I say we drug him and chain him up in the basement! Who's with me?
Seriously, though, we're starting to worry about him a little bit. He seemed to take a huge liking to Fred a few weeks ago, and...well...
I'm sorry, but the thought just creeps the rest of us out...ewwwww...

So, we'll be celebrating my birthday on this week's edition with a Tribute To The Past show, so it's gonna be nothin' but old-school metal all night long!
And apparently Jeffie will be returning to get revenge on me for my actions on our End Of The World show. Oooooooh, I'm so afraid...
Seriously, Jeffie needs to get a grip. He doesn't mind doling out lap dances and doing things that make the rest of us feel awkward and/or uncomfortable, so personally I believe it was high time he got a big dose of his own medicine!
Actually, if I were Jeffie, I'd be more worried about what we're going to do with his damned alligator. Friggin' thing has taken up residence in the restroom, which makes it pretty difficult to take a crap!
Not that it's stopped me, yet...

Recap by The Metal Wulf;

Not much to say about this particular edition. It was actually a refreshingly calm evening for once!

John Halstead of HorseFace joined us to share some newer demos that will be featured on their next full-length, and based on what we heard, we're very much looking forward to featuring that album on the Onslaught as soon as it's available!

Two members of Disfigured Dead were also on hand to discuss their band and where things are currently headed with them. Very tight, aggressive metal of the extreme variety. Brutal jams, to be sure, check 'em out!

Roc City Roller Derby's Lethal Lorelei was on hand to promote her upcoming birthday bash at the Montage. We hadn't had a chance to talk to any of the Roc City ladies in quite some time, so it was cool to have the time to catch up with her a bit.For those interested, the line-up for her party consists of Setiva (reuniting just for her!), Hate Machine, Beneath Hell's Sky, and Silence Broken. Between some great music and the presence of many roller derby girls, I'm betting this is gonna be a party to remember!

Let's see...above and beyond that, there was a full moon, so I spent the evening pretty much coated in fur, and showing off a little bit of the newer dental work my lycanthropic form has acquired. So far no new photos are available, but give it time..
Definitely a plus that none of the band members seemed uncomfortable having a werewolf in their midst. Which is a good thing, as the full moon DOES occasionally coincide with our show...
All in all, it was just all in an evening's work, pretty much another day at the office for the rest of us!

I believe there was some brief mention about my cat and the fact that at numerous times he has seen me naked. Don't know what the big deal is, I'm pretty sure our pets don't really judge us by our looks, whether we're clothed or not.
However, I DID mention that Mittens likes to occasionally curl up under the covers, and I had to admit that I once...well...Dutch-ovened him...
Really, I completely forgot that he was there! I'd woke up in the middle of the night, turned over, farted, and there was suddenly this rampant scurrying under the sheets, as my cat suddenly felt the need to distance himself from the bed.
Can't say I blame him...

So, our next edition of the show will feature our Top 10 lists for 2012. In a nutshell, this means that absolutely NOTHING will suck, as far as music goes this week!
We may even let Tim give us a brief rundown of what he liked the most in the past year, although I got a little scared when he mentioned something about Rick Springfield...
Tune in and see what made us tick throughout the year, and maybe get a little perspective into what we're looking forward to most in 2013!
